Burnt End BBQ took its roots from the traditions of Kansas City Barbecue. These roots come from the 1920s. Barbecue began to emerge from a melting pot of sauces, meats and traditions brought north from the heart of Texas and the open-firepit grills of the Deep South. This background is responsible for Kansas City’s famous barbecue style.
Our Pit Master Smokey Schwartz fine-tuned all the traditions of Kansas City-style barbecue with his individual barbecuing techniques. When it comes to flavor, quality and style, the Burnt End BBQ has emerged as one of Kansas City’s most unique and eclectic barbecue restaurant that is one of the city’s best Gems!
Burnt End BBQ first opened in 2011; our flagship restaurant is located on Metcalf Avenue in Overland Park, Kansas. Our goal is to serve traditional Kansas City style barbeque in new and unique ways with amazing combinations of flavor. Executive Chef / Pit Master Stephen “Smokey” Schwartz has countless years of experience and has competed in BBQ competitions all over the country. Smokey is the only chef to have won Three Grand Champion titles in Chicago at the Food Arts Magazine / Share Our Strength National Championships, — taking home first place in 2006, 2012, and 2015. Smokey has also taken first place at the American Royal Barbecue Championships with his Sweet Chipotle Glaze in 2012 and his Sweet Honey Glaze in 2015. Recently, Smokey and his team of pit chefs went to Beaver Creek for the three days Blues, Brews & BBQ festival and competed against 17 teams with 10,000 people judging and won first place for the People’s choice. Smokey and the Burnt End BBQ were featured on The Food Network’s “The Grill Dads” and recently “Burgers Brew & Que”.
